Ram 1500 Recall: 1.27 Million Trucks Have Improperly Installed Seat Belt Anchors

Chrysler recalled 1,271,294 Ram 1500 trucks (2019–2026) for second-row seat belt buckle anchors that may not be properly attached to the body structure. Owners should avoid the second-row seats until inspected.

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) issued one of the largest recalls of 2026 on July 30, 2026 — covering 1,271,294 Ram 1500 pickup trucks for a seat belt anchor defect that could reduce crash protection for second-row passengers. VINs became searchable on NHTSA.gov on August 6, 2026.

If you own a 2019–2026 Ram 1500, check your VIN now at myobdcode.com/vin-lookup.

What is the defect?

On affected trucks, the second-row seat belt buckle anchor was not properly fastened to the body structure during assembly. A seat belt is only as effective as the anchor holding it in place. When the anchor is not properly secured, the belt cannot manage crash loads as designed, and second-row occupants lose restraint protection exactly when they need it most.

The vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 210, "Seat Belt Assembly Anchorages." The suspect production period ran from February 17, 2018 (when the first 2019 MY vehicle was produced) through April 27, 2026 (the last affected vehicle produced).

Which vehicles are affected?

The recall covers 2019–2026 Ram 1500 pickup trucks — spanning eight model years and 1,271,294 vehicles in the United States. Chrysler's recall number is 67D.

Check your specific VIN at myobdcode.com/vin-lookup or at NHTSA.gov/recalls — not every Ram 1500 in this year range is necessarily affected.

What should you do right now?

  • Avoid using second-row seating positions until your truck has been inspected. Chrysler's consumer advisory specifically recommends this precaution.
  • Check your VIN immediately — VINs became searchable on NHTSA.gov on August 6, 2026, so you can confirm your truck's status right now.
  • Contact your Ram dealer — dealers were notified on August 6, 2026. Call the service department, give them your VIN and recall number 67D, and schedule the free inspection.

What is the repair?

Dealers will inspect and attach the seat belt buckle anchor to the body structure as necessary, free of charge. This is a repair — not a parts replacement — so it should be relatively quick once your dealer appointment is scheduled.

When will owner letters arrive?

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on August 18, 2026, with mailings continuing in phases through late September. Don't wait for the letter — VINs are already searchable and dealers are already authorized to perform the repair.

Other active Ram recalls in 2026

The seat belt anchor recall is the largest, but Ram owners should also be aware of two other active 2026 campaigns:

  • Trailer tow module recall — 456,287 vehicles across 2024–2026 Ram 1500–5500 and 2024–2026 Jeep Wagoneer S and 2026 Jeep Cherokee. The improperly designed trailer tow module can cause trailer lights to fail to illuminate and trailer brakes to fail — both serious safety hazards. All 456,287 vehicles are estimated to have the defect. Dealers will replace the module free of charge.
  • Headlamp wiring recall — approximately 12,592 Ram 1500 trucks for a headlamp wiring issue. Dealers will inspect and replace headlight assemblies as necessary, free of charge.
